This private self-catering home is situated on a large plot at the southern end of Kilifi in ‘Plantation’ as it is located on a working sisal estate. The Dhow House is sited on the top of a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean. The fabulous infinity swimming pool is situated at the front of the house and most of your days will be spent relaxing by the pool and enjoying the ocean views.
Enter the house through a spacious courtyard, with fish pond; you pass through the dining room towards the swimming pool at the front of you with expansive view of the Indian Ocean beyond. The house is situated at the top of a cliff so you get excellent sea-views and can see turtles swimming about in the waves at high tide just below the house. Owing to its cliff-top location, The Dhow House always enjoys cooling sea breezes throughout the year.
The Dhow House in Kilifi has huge spacious rooms all decorated with the minimum of fuss, which in turn gives the house a very sophisticated feel; it has lovely traditional Swahili furniture and decorative mouldings on the walls. There is a very well equipped kitchen, with coconut wood work surfaces and units. The kitchen has two large fridges and a chest freezer, ample storage space and equipment. There is and an excellent cook who will prepare all of your meals for you. The property also has a housekeeper who will clean and tidy for you as well as a gardener and two night-time security guards.
The Dhow House has three very light and spacious bedrooms downstairs: two doubles and a twin, which is ideal for children as this room is air conditioned as it is positioned at the back of the property. All of the bedrooms have large beds, made from coconut wood all with mosquito nets and overhead fans. All linen and towels are provided.
Upstairs is a large living space, with large comfortable day-beds, that are ideal for relaxing on during the day but will probably turn into your main area for socialising in the evenings. There are two further bedrooms upstairs both of which have large bathrooms with power showers.
You will access the beach through a stairway which has been hand-crafted through the coral. At the bottom is your own private 100m beach. Here you can enjoy great swimming and at low tide, one can walk to Takunugu.
The house is situated at the southern end of Kilifi in a working sisal plantation, which has its own dairy herd. The sisal is grown for export and the milk is sold locally. You may enjoy walking, jogging or cycling round Kilifi Plantations – it is 2,500ha so there are many different routes you can choose from. The shops and amenities of Kilifi town are easily accessible by heading north and crossing the Kilifi Bridge. There is a good supermarket, Tusky, in Kilifi for all of your shopping needs and fish and seafood may be bought locally too. Dhow House is ideally located for a memorable stay in Kenya.
